Hi!

I started to feed Zackary with rice cereals and for some weird reason, he got a diaper rash! It's not like any diaper rash I've seen... like a ring of little bumps around his bum VERY weird!?? It was VERY red and I actually gave him Tylenol for it since it seemed painfull! also, he got a rash on his face that got worst with introduction of rice cereals!!

I stopped to see if it was the cereals or something else and the rash is going away! I havent changed his diapers, soap, creams or wipes since he was born!

I just wanted to know if any of you had reactions like that when they introduced rice cereals

I actually read the ingredients in the rice cereals and almost all of them contain milk products.  Read the labels carefully - you would be surprised what is in them!

Good luck!

I thought I had heard that too (about rice cereal having dairy in it). They may use it as some sort of thickener. Poor baby!  Sounds like a nasty rash!!

Teething will definately cause the rash!  Poor thing!

I thought some of the organic rice cereals still had dairy in it.  I could be wrong but I thought some one said that it either had dairy in it or was produced in a plant that also made dairy products as well.

Good luck.

Yup! I skipped cereal with Sammy. I didn't want to add water to the cereal (yuck) instead of milk, and the stuff looks and tastes....less than appealing, so we just skipped it.

I know Jack Newman recommends skipping cereal too:

There is no reason to rush into feeding the baby. If he’s growing well and generally content, don’t try to feed him. One mistake some mothers make is to follow the advice of everyone and start on cereal. That is a bad idea. Cereal tastes awful, is expensive for what you get and is often constipating.

So, give the baby food off of your plate. With a few exceptions, almost anything is okay to give a 7 month old (exceptions include round slippery things, popcorn, that sort of thing). Just put the food straight from your plate onto his plate and let him eat it, or not eat it. Let him decide. Let him eat with his hands, or not.

Awww...poor little guy. Sad

My daughter didn't get a rash but rice cereal did make her extremely gassy!  Her gas pains got so bad that we actually had to take her to Urgent Care one night.  Turns out the extra iron in the cereal was making her gassy/constipated.  We switched to a multi-grain cereal that had a little extra fiber in it to help out with the constipation.
