Sometimes I feel like I’m saying the same thing over and over again. I don’t want to be a whiner or a broken record, but lack of understanding and empathy from friends, family and strangers are a big complaint around these parts.

Anyone who’s had a baby with an easy or average temperament, or one who hasn’t suffered with colic, reflux, an allergy, or extreme sleep or feeding difficulties just can’t understand what it’s like. And who can blame them? For these parents, life with a new baby (while not always easy) is a stage of life they enjoy and even cherish.

For the rest of us however, things can be a bit different. The infant and toddler stage may be one we trudge through, in survival mode, while we wait for the day our child will finally eat, sleep and be content for more than a few minutes at a time.

And this stage is made even more difficult when people assume we made our babies this way – because of something we’ve done, or because of something we failed to do.

One way in which you can help spread awareness of high need babies or of life with a colicky or fussy baby is to post a badge or banner on your website, blog or social media profiles.
